Lavender Essential Oil Benefits

EO Products co-founder Susan Black discovered lavender essential oil decades ago when she wandered into a shop in London. It was a life-changing moment; she breathed in the soothing, calming scent of lavender and was immediately inspired to learn more about the benefits of lavender essential oil. This discovery led to Susan’s dream to create products with this intoxicating scent, and eventually, she co-founded EO Products.

Lavender oil for anxiety

One of the most common questions people ask us is “How do you use lavender oil for anxiety?” Well, it’s important to mention that if constant anxiety is affecting your quality of life, you deserve real help from a mental health professional. While essential oils like lavender can be comforting, they cannot soothe, cure, or treat clinical anxiety. Your mental health is precious and should be protected and respected. If you feel as though you may be suffering from anxiety, please speak to your friends, your family, and your doctor, so that you can get some professional care and support.

When it comes to essential oils, their delightful scents can enhance your relaxation routine or bedtime ritual. Like music, the scent is a universal language and its power can be a doorway into feeling good. All we have to do is walk through it. Just like inhaling the delightful, uplifting smell of lavender blossoms, lavender pure essential oil helps people to feel uplifted, balanced and calmed.

How I use lavender essential oil every day

There’s something so wholesome and earthy about this timeless scent. It’s as though all the sun and life and goodness of the field goes straight into your brain and heart. Once you’ve experienced the calming smell, you may look for more opportunities to welcome lavender into your day. Here are just a few ways you can incorporate lavender essential oils into your everyday routine.

1. Lavender oil aromatherapy: breath in the beauty

It doesn’t take much to bring the healing power of lavender into your daily routine. Shake a few drops of lavender essential oil onto a tissue and tuck it in your sleeve, or add a few drops to a cotton ball and keep it in your car. If life throws a tense situation at you, you’ll have the secret superpower of lavender within easy reach. Just breathing in this soothing scent can help you relax during your day. Breathe slowly and deeply. Even one or two mindful breaths, with the help of lavender, can offer an incredible mind reset.

2. Make a calming room and pillow spray

You can turn any room of the house into a soothing retreat by creating your own spray with lavender. Mix 50 drops of EO or Everyone lavender essential oil (about ¼ of one bottle), 4 oz. distilled water, and 3 oz. of denatured alcohol or vodka in an 8 oz. spray bottle. A few veils of mist is all it takes: you can use it as a general air freshener, and spray it on curtains and carpets, too. Then enjoy the soothing, reassuring scent of lavender anywhere in your home. (It’s also nice to spray while you’re ironing, especially sheets.) The same mixture works wonderfully as a pillow spray: just give your pillowcase a spritz before bed, and drift off to dreamland.

3. Create a spa-like shower: use lavender to relax

The aromatherapy showers in world-class spas and thermal suites provide high-end pampering, but you can get the same benefits at home, in seconds. Put 5 drops of lavender essential oil on the floor of your shower before you step in, turn on the hot water, let it steam for a moment, and step into lavender heaven. Don’t forget to breathe in deeply: inhaling the lavender-scented vapor can help clear a busy mind.

4. Sink into a soothing bath: the bliss of a lavender soak

Swirl a few drops of lavender essential oil into your bathwater. Then sink deeply into a soak that will help soothe and soften your mood. When you combine the calming powers of warm water and nurturing lavender scent, you’re in for some serious relaxation. This is a particularly powerful lavender oil remedy to employ at the end of a stressful work week.

5. Scent your laundry naturally

One of our favorite ways to use lavender is in the dryer. (Bonus: you can avoid the harsh chemical residues and the artificial, synthetic scents of dryer sheets.) Just put a few drops of lavender essential oil on a sock or washcloth instead, then run the dryer. Your laundry will come out smelling subtly faintly of lovely, floral lavender goodness. That means you’ll smell lovely delicious every time you get dressed, and your closets will always be fragrant and fresh.

6. Reach for the body care products: lavender essential oil for hair and skin

Want a simple way to work lavender into your self-care routine? Try lotions, shower gels, bubble baths and deodorants made with lavender essential oil. Lavender’s relaxing, calming aromatherapy benefits are easy to enjoy when the scent is already blended into a product. Can you put lavender oil on your face? Pure essential oils are extremely concentrated and powerful. Like any essential oil, lavender oil should never be put directly on your skin without being diluted. When properly diluted in a carrier oil, it is great for the whole body well being. It really is a wonder.

7. Diffuse a little loveliness: the benefits of lavender essential oil in a diffuser

An ultrasonic essential oil diffuser is one of our favorite ways to enjoy essential oils. It’s effective, economical, and only takes a second! Simply add a few drops of lavender essential oil to your diffuser to help create a sense of calm in any room. Or create a custom blend by mixing the grounding note of lavender with other oils; it blends beautifully with most other oils. One of our favorite combinations that we use to soothe our moods is 4 drops lavender, 1-3 drops geranium, and 2 drops orange.

8. Help create sweet dreams: lavender oil for sleep and relaxation

Dot a handkerchief with 3-4 drops of lavender essential oil and tuck it into your pillowcase for a relaxing end to your day as you drift off. Lavender is also one of the best essential oils to use with our littlest loved ones, but always make sure to check with your doctor, first! Try adding some lavender-scented baby bath and baby lotion to their bedtime routine. You might get a little more peace.

One important note: Keep in mind that essential oils can stain and are easy to overuse -- so swirl, sprinkle, and shake with a light touch.
